Our purpose
Grief is a part of everyday life, and yet it is so often met with silence. We built Anamoria to be a place where we keep the people we love close, and return to them whenever we need.
We believe grief is not a problem to be solved, but it is a journey to be supported. We meet people where they are, without judgment and without agenda, through whatever loss they carry. And we hold to one thing above all: every life deserves to be remembered, and everyone who grieves deserves support.
Anamoria is built to sit beside the people who already care for those who are grieving, and who walk beside them. We offer our work through them, as a quiet extension of the care they already give.
Anamoria was founded for this purpose, and we want to be measured by one thing: whether the people we serve feel supported, seen, and a little less alone.
A note from our founder
I met my daughter Hunter almost twenty-five years ago, and I had her with me for one day.
I had no place to keep her memories, and the silence, and the duality of life, became very present and real. So from the moment I met her, I started making memories. Over the years I have managed to keep her a part of our everyday life, and I couldn't be happier. Her brothers, who came after her, love her and miss her and talk about her as if she has always been here.
I am happy I was chosen for Hunter. I built Anamoria so others would have a place to keep the people they love close.
The name Anamoria means remembering as an act of love. It joins two old words, anamnesis, the Greek word for remembrance, and amor, the Latin word for love.
Anamoria is offered today as a small, free four-week pilot to a few groups at a time. If it feels right for the people you care for, we would be glad to hear from you.
